Description
Deutsch: Detail der Kirchenmauer der Dorfkirche von Gönningen.

Im Ort und auch weiter entfernt wurden früher Kalktuffquader gerne als Baumaterial verwendet. Bis 1912 wurden die riesigen Kalktuffvorkommen, die sich unterhalb der Quellen der Wiesaz in mehreren Stufen gebildet hatten, von Bauernfamilien abgebaut, danach, noch bis 1975, in mehreren großen Steinbrüchen und im Schwarz’schen „Gönninger Tuffsteinwerk“ verarbeitet.

In durchfeuchteten Zustand sind die Ablagerungen sogar sägbar, in ausgetrocknetem Zustand sind die Sedimentblöcke extrem hart und witterungsbeständige Steine. Bei der chemischen Ausfällung des Kalk in früher größeren Wassermengen des Baches (in den letzten 10 Tsd Jahren) wurden viele biotische- und abiotische „Verunreinigungen" eingeschlossen, die das trockene Gestein porös, gut isolierend und leicht machen.

English: A stone of the calcareous tuff wall of the church in Gönningen (Reutlingen). Tufa stone in earlier times was the favorite building material. In quarries often a humid mass, it could be easily broken and sawn. In dried condition it is extremely hard and weather resistant. It is a sediment, precipitated in ambient tempered water currants. In muddy condition, it carries lots of debris, biotic and non biotic. When dried, it makes porous, well isolating an lightweight stones.
