Deutsch: Wasserfall an der Unteren Großen Lauter bei der Laufenmühle, 1,5 km vor Lauterach, Schwäbische Alb. Durch die streichende, plio-pleistozäne „Reichensteiner Verwerfung“ hatte die Lauter talaufwärts eine steilere Gefällestrecke begonnen und dabei über die volle Talbreite seit dem frühen Holozän viel Kalktuff sedimentiert, der in einem großen Steinbruch abgebaut wurde. An der Kalktuff-Abrisskante entstand ein großer Wasserfall, neben dem der Kalktuff noch deutlich sichtbar ist. Der Kalktuff im Steinbruch wurde zur Gewinnung von Bauquadern für die Laufenmühle und viele Gebäude in Lauterach und Umgebung bis zur Erschöpfung um ca. 1955 ausgebeutet. Das Flussbecken der Lauter und die Wasserfallkante entsprechen daher nicht mehr dem ursprünglichen Zustand. Andere Ursachen als turbulentes Wasser durch größeres Gefälle gelten als noch ungeklärt. Im rezenten Flussbett bei Lauterach wurden aber auch „einzelne Sintergerölle“ (Kalktuff-Schotter) gefunden, die aus den Resten einer 30 m höheren Schotterterrasse stammen und von H. Prinz (1959), Geologe, auf das Mittel-Pleistozän datiert werden. English: Water fall at the lower “Große Lauter”. The river’s picturesque karst spring in “Offenhausen” (Gomaringen) and the green, picturesque valley meandering 44 km through the karstic Swabian Alb are a great attraction, worldwide. Its water carries lots of soluted calcium carbonate, which is chemically precipitated again and sedimented as calcareous tuff. Precipitation at this location happens, because the drop of the river increases,in order to reach the erosional level of the Danube after ca. 5 km. Here, at the “Laufenmühle”, next to the last settlement ahead of the Danube, the relatively wide valley has been totally covered by several meters of Early Holocene calcareous tuff. In a big quarry this sediment was exhaustively exploited by 1955, the riverbed’s and the waterfall’s condition were also changed. |
