KENT-8F33AC: medieval seal matrix
Description
English: A complete Medieval lead personal seal matrix of 13th-century date. The matrix is circular in plan and flat in cross section. On the front surface there is a stylised eight point star in the centre surrounded by a crudely engraved legend that is not deep enough to create a prominent impression. It appears to read +S' M_hIS FIL h_WISE although it is not clear. The reverse of the matrix is undecorated and the attachment lug as been broken away by an old break.

The matrix is 31.4mm in diameter, 3.1mm thick and weighs 18.53 grams.
