KENT-6C1B06: Early Medieval Small Long Brooch
Description
English: An Early Medieval square headed small long brooch dated form the 6th Century AD. The brooch has a rectangular head plate, decorated with36 punch marks arranged in two lines around the outer edge, surrounding a central ring dot design. The bow is arched in front, concave behind with two ribs travelling down the centre. The extended foot is is rectangular in plan with extended corners and concave side which create an ox hide shape; an additional, smaller sub rectangular knop protrudes from the bottom edge. The foot is decorated with two ring and dot design and two parallel band of two circular punch dots running across the foot. The reverse of the brooch is plain with the hinge and footplate intact. The pin is missing.

The brooch is 56.2mm long, 15.4mm wide, 1.9mm thick and weighs 9.71 grams.
