KENT-4EB4F8: Post medieval Brooch
Description
English: A complete silver annular brooch of Medieval - Post-Medieval date. The brooch has a circular frame. It is convex at the front and concave at the rear and has ridged edges. The frame is pierced with a circular hole to take the pin. The pin is D-shaped in cross-section, flat at the rear. There appears to have been two initials stamped on to the pin; they are now unclear but could be "RN". Similar examples of brooches can be seen on the databae here:NMS-7D6271, IOW-995756.

Width: 5.9 mm, Thickness: 1.1 mm, Diameter: 25.3 mm, Weight: 1.99 g

This type of brooch has in the past been described as Medieval (see Treasure Annual Report 2003, fig, 164, 2003 T134), but the appearance of stamped initials RN on the pin suggests a later date, but could still be pre 1712.

Consequently, in terms of age and as the object contains a minimum of 10% precious metal it qualifies as Treasure under the stipulations of the Treasure Act 1996.
