Description
English: Coat of arms of John de Grey (d.1311) of Rotherfield, Oxfordshire (father of w:John de Grey, 1st Baron Grey de Rotherfield (d.1359), KG, a Founder Knight of the Garter. (Title of Baron Grey de Rotherfield created 1338)), as blazoned in the Caerlaverock Poem (K-062: "Johan de Graÿ")

"I ot sa baniere barree
De argent e de asur entallie
O bende rouge engreellie."
Arms: Barry [of six] argent and azure, a bend indented gules.

(Note: With regards to the bend, Henry Gough states the following on p. 138 of Scotland in 1298, "In the Poem of Carlaverock the bend is described as engrailed, which seems to be merely an error of the rhymer.")
