Summary
[edit]DescriptionJunction with Mill Lane - geograph.org.uk - 597657.jpg |
English: Junction with Mill Lane. The road crossing the immediate foreground of this photograph links the A6175 to the north (left, called Mill Lane¹) with Stanley to the south (right, unnamed¹).
The road ahead, from under the motorway bridge is unnamed¹. The reason for the difficulty in naming the roads is due to the M1 motorway, which has been built across the route of the original, much older, roads². Before the motorway the route to the left foreground (Mill Lane) did not exist in its present position, instead it arrived near to this point from (approximately) under the modern bridge. As a result of this realignment some maps show two Mill Lanes; the new one and the old, severed, one. The Motorway has effectively cut the village of Stainsby in two. The 597765 (Stainsby along with Astwith, is part of the Ault Hucknall parish), mill and some farms are ahead, on the other side of the motorway. Whilst the main part of the village is behind the viewpoint, on this side of the motorway. From the same viewpoint, but rotated 90° clockwise, a short section of 597658 can be seen. At the end of this stretch of road there is the junction with the lane into Stainbsy village. Behind the viewpoint of this photograph is this 597660.
