Summary[edit]

Description
English:
Anti-Jewish carved frieze that depicts a "Judensau" (German for "Jew's sow"), in the Ernestine Chapel of the Magdeburg Cathedral. It shows a big sow and a bearded, long-haired Jew (with a conical Jewish hat) behind it. His right arm is broken off, he was probably originally touching the sow. Beneath the sow there is a kneeling Jew, dressed simillary to the standing one, who holds and sucks a teat. Next to him is a piglet with the head broken off. Another piglet is standing under the head of the sow. Round the corner the frieze show a shows a scene with an oak tree and woman holding a bowl with acorns. Behind her stands a beardless Jew, dressed like the two men on the other side, holding an open scroll. The frieze was made in the thirteenth century. It can bee seen on the south wall inside the Ernestine Chapel (Ernst-Kapelle).
Deutsch:
