Français : Cette carte retraçant la vie du patriarche Abraham fut publiée à Anvers en 1590 par Abraham Ortelius (1527-98), l'éditeur flamand qui créa le premier atlas du monde. Il s'agit de la première impression d'une carte par Tilemann Stella (vers 1525-89), un cartographe, géographe et mathématicien allemand. La carte en encart sur la partie supérieure gauche montre le voyage d'Abraham quittant son lieu de sa naissance, identifié dans la Bible comme Ur des Chaldées pour se rendre en Terre sainte. La carte principale montre des lieux en Terre sainte associés à Abraham, et est encadrée par des illustrations de couleur représentant des scènes de l'existence longue et mouvementée d'Abraham.
English: This map tracing the life of the patriarch Abraham was published in Antwerp in 1590 by Abraham Ortelius (1527-98), the Flemish publisher who created the world’s first atlas. It is the first printing of a map by Tilemann Stella (circa 1525-89), a German cartographer, geographer, and mathematician. The inset map at the upper left shows Abraham’s journey to the Holy Land from the land of his birth, identified in the Bible as Ur of the Chaldees. The main map shows places in the Holy Land identified with Abraham, and is framed with colored illustrations of scenes from Abraham’s long and eventful life.
