Maria Jose Mora Dead. Recluse With $200,000 Long Had Subsided on Gift Pies and Cakes. Maria Jose Mora, leading stage and society photographer of New Fork forty years ago, died last night at St. Vincent's Hospital. He was in his eightieth year. Until June 20, when he was removed to the hospital, Mora was living where he had spent the last fifteen years in a little room at the Hotel Breslin subsisting mainly on pies and cakes given him by other guests although he was reputed to have an account of $200,000 and property in Cuba and on Long Island. Mora chose the life of a recluse after his career as a photographer ended. The only companions he chose to have about him were four pigeons. To keep with him the memories of past days he decorated the walls of his room at the Breslin with old, photographs of dead celebrities and covered his table with old theatre clippings.
