English: The Johnstown Academy Building, also known as the Old Academy located at 110 South Market Street between West Clinton and West Montgomery Street in Johnstown, New York, was built in 1798 as a schoolhouse. In the later 19th century, it was one of the first schools to be certified by the state's new education department. Elizabeth Cady Stanton was educated there. In 1886, the building was bought by Nelson Vrooman in and remodeled into a glove factory. It is currently the headquarters and factory of Joseph P. Conroy, Inc., a manufacturer and wholesaler of gloves and leather goods, established in 1949. (Sources: [1], [2], [3], [4]) |
