Summary[edit]

Description
English: John Savery memorial, St Michael's church, Cornwood. The Savery family was seated at Slade in the parish of Cornwood. The child seems very relaxed. His mother was a descendant of Sir Francis Drake's brother. He died in 1696, though at what age is not clear. The verse underneath reads:

"'This infant fled from our admiring sight His stay so short, so sudden was his flight That he has taught us by his hasting hence That th'earth's too vile for so much innocence Reader relent since thou noe more shall see This matchless child but in his effigie".

Below are the Savery arms (Gules, a fess vair between three unicorn's heads couped or) and on a shield and above is Savery impaling Drake (Sable, a fess wavy between two estoiles argent), representing the marriage of his parents.
