Following Claude Fraser's, the loyal secretary of John Hope Simpson admission to hospital, Thomas Lodge was appointed by The Dominions Office in London to the post of Government Director, Labrador Development Company Ltd. in the tradition of the civil service veil of secrecy to 'keep a lid' on the deaths of Arthur Eric Williams and Erica Danitoff Williams in Hope Simpson 1940 Feb 2. Lodge's appointment also meant that the over-riding reason why the Dominions Office had set-up The Public Enquiry into the Affairs of the Labrador Development Company - to discredit John Osborn Williams - was also 'kept under wraps.' Lodge's published book "Dictatorship in Newfoundland" did not go down very well with his political masters in the Dominions Office.
