Summary[edit]

Description
English: John Hunter in Leicester Square A bust by the pre-Raphaelite sculptor Thomas Woolner of John Hunter (1728-93) the celebrated anatomist who once lived in the square, purchasing two houses, back to back, in order to accommodate his vast collection of medical and zoological specimens and curiosities. The high and mighty entered his house by the front door, while the back door provided access for the more sinister deliveries, including purloined human corpses for his dissecting table: this has given rise to speculation that Hunter was Stevenson's inspiration for Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde.
