Summary[edit]

Description

Long time member of the CDHS, John Bolton was the recipient of the Outstanding Volunteer award in the Township of Addington Highlands. John Bolton (left) receives the award from Reeve Henry Hogg on Nov 29, 2014 at the annual Christmas Party in the Denbigh Hall. Excerpts from Henry Hogg's introduction of John:

"John and Elaine Bolton returned to Northbrook in 1965 to run the Northbrook Hotel. John and some other residents of the area realized the need for a Fire Department and so the Land O' Lakes Fire Department was formed in 1970. John became the first Fire Chief, a position he held until the late 1990s.

Soon there was a need for a Fire Hall. John and two other area residents personally guaranteed a loan for $5000 each in 1972 to build one since the township did not support this venture. The loans were paid off in 3 years by fundraisers.

The Land O' Lakes Fire Department eventually became the Kaladar-Barrie Fire Department in 1991 and John retired as Fire Chief in 1999. The new Fire Hall south of Northbrook is a result of John's vision."
