Description The Japanese light cruiser Katori burning off Truk Lagoon, as seen from U.S. Navy Grumman TBF Avenger of Torpedo Squadron Six (VT-6) from USS Intrepid (CV-11) on 17 February 1944. The destroyer Maikaze is in the left distance. Katori was damaged by air attack and sunk with Maikaze off Truk by the heavy cruisers USS New Orleans (CA-32), USS Minneapolis (CA-36) and the destroyers USS Radford (DD-446) and USS Burns (DD-588).
