Summary[edit]

Description Despite the "fall of the wall" or Wende on 9 Nov 1989, it was no easier for non-Germans to obtain visas and this state of affairs continued until re-unification. One had to take what was offered by the FDJ. And one had only some imput into one's independent travelling itinerary. The U- and S-Bahn net has since been integrated. Here was what was offered in DDR times. I see that I was on the 5th floor, entrance C- excellent rear facing views of the U-Bahn sidings at Friedrichsfelde. The U5 line had only that summer been extended to Hoenow (marked as "im Bau" on the helpful map, but the Youth Hostel's position on the U5 made a pilgrimage to the new terminus a must.
