Summary[edit]
DescriptionJames Terrell Miller, 1918 (4368675482).jpg |
English: In 1913 King and Ben Thompson purchased 840 acres of the Miller family farm from James Terrell Miller to form the original land tract for the City of Upper Arlington. James T. Miller is considered the first resident of Upper Arlington and was elected as mayor soon after it was incorporated as a village in March 1918. Born in Columbus on August 14, 1846, Mr. Miller married Miss Esther Everett in 1869. They had eight children: Samuel Huston, Henry, Eliza (Mrs. E. D. Howard), Grace, Nancy, Almeda, Jessie, and Ella. In 1856, his father, Henry Miller, bought the 850 acres that later became the majority of the plat for Upper Arlington, because he felt a move to the country would improve James' health. The family home grew to contain 22 rooms and was one of the first six houses in Columbus outfitted with plumbing. The Miller family actively farmed the land and raised horses and shorthorn cattle. Henry, James, and Samuel Huston also operated a shoe business with stores in Columbus and Pittsburg. http://ua-archives.cdmhost.com/u?/p4036coll10,65 Identifier: hinw03p00ai01 |
