Title
English: Jack Pine branches and cones
Description
English:

A closeup of the Y-shaped branch of a Jack Pine, thick with curly, gray cones and slender, green needles.

The Jack Pine has sharp needles about the length of an adult's little finger. They also have distinctive curled cones that point toward the end of the branch and are often sealed shut with a waxy resin. This resin is meant to keep the seeds inside the cone safe from predators, and dissolves in the high heat of forest fires.
