English: Iron Door covered with 2 inch glass under the Downing Block in Salem, Ma. In this building was the Essex Lodge, Salem Bank, Essex Historical Society, Essex Natural History Museum, and the East India Marine Society Museum. All of which utilized the smuggling tunnels in town. These tunnels were used by Federalist Party politicians to avoid paying Thomas Jefferson's custom duties in 1801 and beyond.
