Summary[edit]

Description
English: This conceptual diagram represents potential pathways of iron and sulfate reduction in low-temperature systems. Iron reduction can be catalyzed for dissimilatory metabolism or it can be driven abiotically, through reaction with sulfide produced by microbial sulfate reduction. When it is abiotic, intermediate sulfur compounds (here represented by S0) can then be reduced or disproportionated by microorganisms.
