Deutsch: Boris Kobe definierte den Raum des Denkmals durch eine leicht erhöhte Plattform, als Basis für einem Granitbogen, der symbolisch die Opfer der verschiedenen Nationen miteinander verbindet. Ihre Namen sind auf der Unterseite des Bogens eingraviert, während auf der Oberseite Stufen zu einer großen bronzenen Urne auf dem Scheitelpunkt führen. Es gibt ein sekundäres Element der Komposition des Denkmals, das den größeren Raum einbezieht - den Obelisk mit Inschriften in mehreren Sprachen über den Zweck des Denkmals. Die suggestive Kraft des Entwurfs wird durch seine Größe und die Dimension der geometrischen Elemente sowie durch das Material betont: Pohorje Tonalit (ein grauer Granit aus Slovenien) in großen Dimensionen geschnitten. Um das Denkmal von den thematisch unterschiedlichen Hintergründen einzelner Gräber und deren kleinerem Maßstab zu trennen, pflanzte der Architekt dicht beieinander säulenförmige Pappeln. Mit ihrer himmelwärts gerichteten Charaktetistik spielen sie eine wichtige Rolle in der Gesamtkomposition und stellen einen aktiven Kontrapunkt zur monumentalen Rolle der Steinelemente des Denkmals dar.
English: Boris Kobe defined the space of the monument with a slightly raised platform supporting the central device - a granite arch symbolically connecting the victims belonging to the different nations. Their names are engraved on the arch's bottom surface while the upper surface is formed by steps leading to a large bronzed urn on its crown. There is a secondary element of the monument's composition engaging the wider space - the obelisk with inscriptions about the purpose of the monument in multiple languages. The suggestive power of the design is emphasised by its size in the sense of the dimension of its simple elements, as well as the material: Pohorje tonalite (a grey granite from Slovenia) cut in large dimensions. To serve as a screen separating the monument from the thematically disparate background of individual graves and their small scale, the architect planted columnar poplars very close together. With their ethereal character, they play an important role in the composition as a whole, representing an active counterpoint to the monumental role of the monument's stone elements. |
