English: The Saptakoteshwar temple built by the King Saptakoteshwar, for his wife Kamaldevi who was a staunch devotee of this god, around the twelfth century, the Kadamba kings proudly used the title (Birudu) Shree Saptakotisha Ladbha Varaveera, this temple is considered to be one of the six great sites of temples of Shiva in the Konkan area, in 1352 a number of temples were destroyed by Bahmani Sultanate during this period and the linga at the Saptakoteshwar temple was dug up by the troops, in 1367, Vijayanagar King Harihararaya defeated the Bahmani Sultan's troops in Goa and managed to restore most of the temples including this, again in 1560 it was demolished by the Portuguese and some Hindus managed to rescue it, then the idol was installed in a new temple in 1668 by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, it is now located at Narve, Goa, India
