Summary[edit]

Description

These pages provide descriptions of available accommodation at Bon Echo Inn and the new golf course being constructed. The Fairway Campground at the current Bon Echo Provincial Park was aptly named. Some of the larger clearings would have been actual fairways.

In the early 1920s the Inn did well financially. In 1922 a riding stable, tennis and badminton courts were added. However by the end of the 1920s the Inn was experiencing tough times even before the worst of the Depression. Merrill Denison was forced to close the Inn in late 1929. To help cover expenses he leased it to an aviation training firm, the Leavens Brothers, which continued to operate the site as a summer hotel. (source: The Mazinaw Experience by John Campbell).

Merrill now used the property as a rural estate and continued with his writing. It is doubtful the golf course was ever finished to the extent Merrill imagined.
