Imperfections in the confinement grid allow particles to escape and recirculate.

Summary[edit]

Description
English: Inertial Electrostatic Confinement or IEC is a method of confining ions in an eletricfield generated by a DC high voltage. The high voltage on the grid creates a virtual cathode at the center of the grid. Amateur scientists have been experimenting with IEC devices to create an environment which supports the fusion of hydrogen isotopes.
