The contact ismade and broken in the igniter of theengine as at the wipe spring of a ratchet gasburner. Four to eight large cells of drybattery are used, or eight cells Edison-Lalande—iron-clad type. Number of cellsvaries with size of coil needed, some classesof engines require a heavier spark thanothers to ignite the vapor. When a primary and secondary are used,the primary should be made of two or threelayers No. 14 B & S magnet wire, and asecondary of one pound No. 34 B & Smagnet wire. There can be an independentcontact breaker or the coil can be made upsimilar to a one-half inch spark Ruhmkorffsoil (see Chapter I.).
