Summary[edit]

Description

Indigo the Wonder Duck takes his first 'steps' in his new lair, to the delight of duck creator Natalina (a.k.a. Dr. Canard).

Indigo is my first prototype for the Wonderbot experiment, which aims to bring characters to life by adding motion to art objects, with the help of robots.

For this test, I used a decoy duck artfully decorated by Dr. Canard, and mounted it over a robot I made at the Marin MakerSpace

I then built a 8' x 4' modular plywood stage that's large enough for up to 4 wonderbots to play together.

Indigo seems right as home on that stage, where he now moves smoothly. He is not bumping into obstacles anymore, as he was in our home, because the stage's small walls are at the same level as his sonar, so he can detect them easily.

In the next few days, I would like to build a few more Wonderbots and see how they behave when when they are brought together in the same space. Then we'll add a storyline, a backdrop, more lights and sounds, with impromptu dialog and music. I can’t wait to see them interact with each other. Stay tuned …
