Shewas born in Fayette County, Indiana,daughter of William and Emily (Wil-liams) Davis. j\Ir. and )\Irs. Jones aremembers of the First Methodist EpiscopalChurch at Marion. HoMEB Hayes Scott has been a figurein the educational life and affairs of GrantCounty for a number of years. He is ayoung man of gi-cat natural ability, andthis ability has found expression in activi-ties that constitute an important sei-viceand an instrument of good in the advance-ment and progress of his community. He was born on a farm in Grant Countv,:\Iarch 13, 1879, son of Elihu and Sarah(Grindle) Scott. Largely through his ownefforts he acquired a liberal education, andin 1913 was granted the degree A. B. bythe Muncie National Institute. He beganhis work as a teacher in 1899, and for fiveyears was principal of the Van BurenTownship High School, and for five years

Forthree summer terms he was a teacher inthe Marion Normal Colleg:e, and one sum-mer in the Muneie National Institute.Mr. Scott is now a member and secretaryof the Library Board, is a member of theIndiana Teachers Association, is a mem-ber of the Executive Board of the BoyScouts of Grant County, and is a stewardof the Jlethodist Episcopal Church andteacher of the Mens Bible Class. He isan active prohibitionist. April 25. 1914, he married Miss CoraZonetta Compton, of Wayne County. In-diana, daughter of Samuel and Eliza(Johnson) Compton. Her father was acontractor and builder. George Armentrottt Elliott is presentmayor of the City of Newcastle. That isonly one of a long line of dignities andhonors that have been bestowed upon theElliott family in Eastern Indiana, wherefour generations of the Elliotts have beenprominent in public and professional life.It is the purpose of the following para-graph to tell briefly the
