ut 10 miles EastGovernment of Peshawar. It comprises 100 acres, and was startedFarm. in 1910. The irrigation water is supplied by the Kurvi branch of the Kabul River Canal. The Department isdevoting special attention to fruit cultivation, peaches in particular,but various kinds of cotton are being experimented with. TheCambodia cotton on the farm was about 10 feet high, and itevidently received too much water. The farm is not situated in thecotton-growing tract, but a new farm will be started at Dera Ismail 110 INDIAN COTTON. Khan, the best cotton-growing tract. The cotton crop is developingin the Province comparatively quickly, and the intention of startingthe new farm at Dera Ismail Khan, which is a more suitable dis-trict, deserves to be mentioned. I am convinced that with due atten-tion to seed and plant selection the ginning outturn, which is excep-tionally low, could be increased. Perhaps the services of a Botanistmight be of use. The farm has been excellently laid out by Mr. R.

Robertson Brown, and the fruit experiments do him great credit.The farm has a racecourse, where the farmers congregate now andthen to devote themselves to sports, such as tent-pegging, racing,&c, of which they are very fond. This is one way in which to attractthe cultivators to the demonstration farm, and to teach them improvedmethods. The cotton prospects in this Province are decidedly bright. INDIAN COTTON.
