Français : L’incendie de Notre-Dame de Québec
« Dans la nuit du 22 décembre 1922, une catastrophe frappe la basilique-cathédrale Notre-Dame de Québec. Un incendie détruit de fond en comble le temple historique. Une enquête démontrera que le feu avait été allumé par un pyromane américain, Ray Marsden. Heureusement, peu de temps après, l’église est reconstruite quasiment à l’identique. Encore aujourd’hui, elle épouse donc la volumétrie que lui avait donnée l’ingénieur militaire Gaspard-Joseph Chaussegros de Léry entre 1743 et 1749. Pour bien saisir l’ampleur de la destruction de 1922, deux clichés saisis par un photographe amateur nous montrent le clocher de l’église gisant au beau milieu de la rue De Buade, de même que l’abside en hémicycle, vue depuis l’entrée du Palais épiscopal de la rue Port-Dauphin, flanquée à gauche par le presbytère et à droite par le passage qui menait à l’archevêché. » – Société historique de Québec
