Description

I have heard conflicting information about this lovely piece of furniture, which is in front of the altar in the Holy Trinity Cathedral in Addis Ababa.

Our guide said Emperor Haile Selassie I used it as his pew when he attended services at the Cathedral.

Another source says it is the ebony throne of Empress Menen Asfaw. Still another claims it was Emperor Haile Selassie I's throne.

Gosh - what to believe? I'll go with our guide's account and consider it Emperor Haile Selassie I's pew. If any viewer has a different understanding of the piece's provenance and purpose, I'd be delighted if you would share it with us.
