Text Appearing Before Image: South-eastern Tibet. This was the road followedby the Indian traveller A. K. (Krishna) who was here in 1882.He calls the place Dayiil Gomba; thus omitting the r whichis subjoined but pronounced, and including the /, which isa silent affix, as in Seshu(l), Beyu(l), Zayu(l). A. K. omits thissubjoined r in all his Tibetan words, and talks of Doha forDraba (monks) and Dokba for Drokba (nomads). The Yu Chu is here quite a fair size, comparable to theShe Chu at Dawu; it is frozen only in its quieter reaches, where useful ice bridges form, enabling the traveller to crossfrom one bank to the other at will. 1 The trangka is a Lhasa minted silver coin, exchanging three to a rupee;with the exception of those recently minted they are for the most part thin, battered, defaced and irregular in circumference; but in Tibetan territorywe always carried a good stock of them as they form a useful subdivisionof the rupee; where they are not available one has to make use of rupees cutin half.
