At one place wedescended as low as 13,000 feet and came once more amongstdense forests of juniper, silver firs {Abies Wehhiana), mountainash, willow, birch and tall rhododendrons. Erom everytree hung long grey hchens attesting the moisture of thecHmate. Wherever there was an open space ua the forest,it was carpeted with flowers. Two delightful varietiesof primula were new to me, and were just commg out, oneof them being almost black ui colour. The big deep redmeconopsis grew here, too, in great luxuriance.
