Igreja da Misericórdia – 1540 - A Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Luz, do antigo Hospital da Santa Casa de Misericórdia de Olinda, foi construída em 1540, por ordem da Coroa Portuguesa. Em 1630, o estabelecimento foi saqueado pelos holandeses e incendiado no ano seguinte. Depois da saída dos flamengos, em 1654, a igreja foi reconstruída com a feição do barroco, com reminiscências da renascença portuguesa. A Igreja da Misericórdia possui um adro com muros de arrimo e escadaria de acesso assimétrico. O frontispício da fachada possui duas volutas que se alçam sem apoio, e sobre elas um brasão real em relevo. O púlpito, em talha dourada, tem as insígnias da Casa D’Áustria. O forro também é de talha e nele se enquadram painéis pintados, um dos quais, o central, representa a Nossa Senhora da Misericórdia. As edificações do antigo hospital, contíguas à Igreja de Santa Casa da Misericórdia, foram demolidas dando lugar a um colégio de freiras, formado pelas Monjas da Ordem Beneditina
