Picture description Drawing with a view of the "Ngarai Sianok" ("Sianok Grand Canyon") near Bukittinggi (District IV Koto, Agam Regency, West Sumatra)

Note: The "Ngarai Sianok" is a valley located in the "Singgalang mountains" with a length of ca. 15 kilometers, a depth of ca. 200 meters, and cliffs up to 100 meters. This valley is part of the "Semangko fault" (named so because of his shape like a watermelon cut open) which also divides the two island of Sumatra and which is a result of synclinal movements of earth crust. In the valley is flowing the river "Sianok Rod" with crystal clear water. In the Dutch colonial era and by American tourists this valley was called also "Buffalo Canyon", because of any free-living wild buffaloes in the bottom of the canyon.
