Summary[edit]

Description
English: Place: Liping, Qiandongnan Miao and Dong Autonomous Prefecture, Guizhou Province

Chinese name: 黄海N2 (huánghǎi N2) Year of launch: 2015

There used to be a staggering amount of Chinese carmakers producing some pick-up or SUV based on the 1988 Isuzu TF/Faster/Rodeo, with brands including Great Wall, Foton, Huanghai (Shuguang), ZX Auto (Zhongxing), Tianqi Meiya, Wanfeng, Xinkai, JMC (Jiangling), BAW, Changfeng, Foday (Fudi), Dongfeng, FAW, Jinbei, Higer, Gonow, JAC (Jianghuai) and the likes. Huanghai, which means Yellow Sea. It refers to the place where Huanghai is based: Dandong, Liaoning, not far from the Yellow Sea, the largest border city, just across the river from North Korea. This connection also explains why North Korean carmaker Pyeonghwa Motors produced a few Huanghai models under license. Huanghai is a make of SG Automotive, which was founded in 1995. Through the years it made copies of the Kia Sorento Mk1 (also with Hyundai Santa Fe Mk2 front end), Lexus RX Mk2 (also with Pontiac Torrent front end), Isuzu D-MAX and numerous variations on the old Isuzu TF platform, including a SsangYong Rexton and Toyota Land Cruiser Prado 120 look-alike and this Chevrolet Colorado Thai-spec look-alike. It recently launched the new N3 pick-up.

Many Chinese pick-up manufacturers seem to switch from the old 1990 Isuzu pick-up and Toyota Hilux platforms to the 2008 generations of the D-MAX and Hilux. Huanghai started with the newer Hilux platform in 2014, when it launched the N1, and it was followed by the N2 in 2015.
