Lancaster Covered Bridge
Built by the Wheelock Bridge COmpany of Fort Wayne, INdiana. In the year 1872. The bridge spans 1128 feet over athe Wildcat creek and is supported by cast Iron abutments. The abutment design was patented by Alpheus Wheelock in 1870. Replicated original letterinjg from the Southwest Wingwall is Below. The Orignal wingwall section is located in its original position.
Rehabilitated in 1972 by Jack Isom Construction Company, inc. The work included replacing broken floor boards and posting a 3 ton load restriction.
Major rehabilitation was performed in 1981 by Howard Heavilon, the work included the construction of the steel support structure currently beneath the bridge and the replacement of several floor beams and some of the decking.
Rehabilitated again in 2006. The work included the replacement of the lower chords, floor system, siding, and the deteriorated members of the upper chord. The work also included repairing the stabilizing the cast iron abutments.
