Description |
Nederlands: Maniokrasp, in de vorm van een houten plank, waar scherpe steensplinters in zijn gestoken. De rasp is met zwarte motieven versierd, waaronder een hagedisachtig dier. Deze voorstelling heeft geen bijzondere betekenis.
Deze rasp is door de Trio’s gebruikt, die deze typen van de Waiwai in Noord-Brazilië en Guyana verkregen (informatie Jimmy Mans, RMV). De maniokraspen van de Waiwai schijnen een gewild handelsgoed in de regio te zijn geweest (Yde 1965, 34 & 36). Het maken van de plank is mannenwerk, terwijl de vrouwen de steensplinters maken en die de plank in drijven. Ook het verven van de plank is vrouwenwerk. De versiering uiteindelijk wordt door mannen aangebracht (Yde 1965, 33 & 34). De houten plank is waarschijnlijk afkomstig van een plankwortel. De steelsplinters worden met behulp van een beitels afgeslagen van een groot stuk hoornfels en vervolgens in de plank gestoken. Hoornfels is een silicaatgesteente dat splinterig en zeer hard en duurzaam is. De rasp is rood beschilderd met een emulsie van latex en annatto, een plantaardige kleurstof van de zaden van de orleaanboom. Hoewel de steensplinters diep in het hout zitten, verstevigt het latex de rasp. (Yde 1965, 34). Deze rasp is met een reptiel- of amfibieënachtig dier versierd. De Waiwai zeggen dat die versiering geen betekenis heeft, maar slechts voor de sier wordt getekend. Echter hebben alle motieven een eigen naam (Yde 1965, 34). Het is vooralsnog onbekend hoe het motief op deze rasp heet. |
