This view of Third Avenue in downtown Seattle shows the Hotel Sterling. The hotel was built in 1903 by the Union Trust Company (The same who built the Union Trust Building in Pioneer Square) during a boom in hotel development in conjunction with rising economic opportunities and population growth, as well as the opening of the Alaska-Yukon-Pacific Exposition (AYPE) in 1909. The building was remodeled in 1934 by Stimson and McDonald, Architects, and still stands on the east side of Third Avenue, between Union Street and Pike Street.
