Title |
horseshoe scraper |
||
Description |
English: A horse-shoe scraper worked on a short and very thick flake of dark brown flint containing large diffuse and light grey inclusions. The steep sides have been boldy semi-abruptly flaked with much finer abrupt finishing retouch around the distal end, slightly undercutting and forming a smooth and symmetrical convex plan. The large patch of remaining nodular cortex on the right dorsal surface would help to make the tool easier to hold. The flakework produces a slight narrowing towards the proximal end but the implied hafting by this feature would be a challenge due to the great thickness. The left margin towards the proximal end continues the narrowing retouch on the ventral side of that edge. The proximal end and bulb of percussion have been flaked away but there is no retouch unlike a round scraper. Indeed the denticulated edge is uncomfortable to hold and after all might help to embed into the handle. |
