Title
English: Hopi and Hopi Tewa People around a Culturally Modified Tree
Description
English: Hopi and Hopi-Tewa people gather around a culturally modified ponderosa pine tree near the dunes, along with NPS staff. A large section of the tree’s trunk bark is missing, but the tree is alive and healthy. These trees are living artifacts, ceremonially peeled in past centuries for food and medicine.
