| Description |
English: Holes Bay. The shallow tidal water of Holes Bay is cut in two by the London to Weymouth railway, although two culverts allow the main channels, known as Creekmoor Lake and Upton Lake, to pass through the railway embankment. This picture, taken at high tide, shows only a small spit of mudflat remaining above the water. The train from which this picture was taken was the "Southern Belle", a special train to commemorate the last of the old slam door electric trains. This was probably the first, and almost certainly the last, train to run from one extreme of the Southern electrified network, Ramsgate, to the other, Weymouth, and back. |
