Fra Trygve B. Gjervans (1918 - 2004) samling.

Gjervan var vernepliktig og tjenestegjorde ved Infanteriregiment 12 som holdt nøytralitetsvakt ved grensen til Sovjetunionen og Finland i Finnmark i 1940. Da tyskerne invaderte Norge 9. april ble IR 12 sendt sørover, og under general Carl Gustav Fleischer (1883 - 1942) ble de satt inn i det norske motangrepet ved Gratangen nær Narvik, hvor IR 12 led store tap.

Fotograf er ifølge Gjervans notater hovedsakelig Kåre Hernes.

Bildet er fra Hamnvik. Disse 3 skip skal føre oss den siste biten hjem til Trøndelag og Nordmøre - krigen er slutt her i Nord-Norge.
