Summary[edit]

Description
English: Photo taken 2021 of the exhibits in Hjemmefrontmuseet Rakkestad, a local World War II resistance museum in Rakkestad, Norway, exhibiting approx. 3000 objects related to Nazi Germany's occupation of Norway during the war 1940 – 1945 and the time period:
  • Hand-knit wool mittens with a traditional Norwegian pattern in black and white, but adorned with political symbols and emblems from the war. One pair of mittens features King Haakon VII's monogram ("H7") and the Norwegian lion (both royal and national insignia and coat-of-arms) as a patriotic symbol in the resistance struggle. The origin and background story of the mittens and their protest and propaganda symbols are unclear.
Home Front Museum Rakkestad, December 29, 2020: Mittens with Markings. We are somewhat uncertain about the history behind these hand-knit mittens. It is claimed that this was a form of love story that unfolded during the period 1940-1945. The symbols go in both directions, raising the question of whether love went in both directions.
