linois, in1873. He then taught mathematics in that col-lege for two years. He graduated from New-ton Theological Institute, in Massachusetts, in1876. Coming to California in that year, hetaught three years in California College atVacaville. 1876-1879. From 1880 to 1885 hewas president of Ottawa University, Ottawa,Kansas. He studied law in Idaho, and wasadmitted to the bar there, in 1887. His oflicewas at Blackfoot, and his practice embracedmany cases involving water rights and consti-tutional questions. In 1892 Mr. Stewart wasthe candidate of the Prohibition party forSupreme Judge. It will be seen that he has been a greattraveler over the wide West, but he seems tobe permanently and agreeably established inlaw practice now at Los Angeles, where he lo-cated in 1893. He is a good, clean man, asterling character, an able lawyer, with a pay-ing business. In 1896 he was a candidate forSupreme Judge on the Prohibition ticket, andwas the nominee of the same party for Su-perior Judge in 1900.
