He edited andpublished a weekly paper in Oswego, wherethe boy learned to set type, and later removedto Cazenovia, where young Myrick continuedto work in the printing office, and attendedschool at the Cazenovia Seminary. Hon. S.H. Dwindle, afterwards judge in San Fran-cisco, was a boy there, as were W. W. Mon-tague, Esq.. now postmaster of San Francisco,the late Rev. A. W. Loomis, Charles DudleyWarner, and Hon. J. R. Hawley, the latternow United States senator from Conecticut.In May, 1843, the family moved and locatedupon a new farm in Jackson county. Michi-pan, where tlie father died in September fol-lowing.
