ative to the possibility of Mr. AndrewCarnegie placing an organ in the auditorium, but that it would notbe necessary to appeal to Mr. Carnegie for that purpose, as he wasvery glad to say that some friends deeply interested in the Depart-ments welfare were willing to place a pipe organ of suitable sizein the auditorium, to cost about $5000, if such a gift was accept-able. The offer was accepted, and a fine Haskell organ was installedat a cost of .$5500. The installation was completed for use in theservices and musical entertainments held and given during the winterof 1904-05. The gift of this instrument enabled the Departmentnot only to add dignity and solemnity to the music accompanyingits religious services, but also enabled it to plan for organ recitalsand other musical events, which have since been given to the edifi-cation and uplifting of the members. The occasion was during the semi-centennial of the organization of the Young Mens Christian Asso-ciation of Philadelphia. Three meetings were arranged for and heldon Sunday, January 29, one at the Union Tabernacle Church inKensington, one at the Garrick Theatre, and one at the Pennsyl-vania Railroad Departments building. At the latter, formerPresident of the United States Grover Cleveland delivered an addresswherein he paid a high tribute to the Department and the advance-ment it had made. Mr. Cleveland, upon being fittingly introduced byMr. William A. Patton to a large audience which tested the capacityof the auditorium to its utmost limit, arose and spoke as follows: Mr. Chairman and Ladies and Gentlemen:—This occasionis full of inspiration for those who delight in the success and growthof a good cause.
