ARGENTAN 207 (1763) at Argentan three manufactures of point de France,without counting the general hospital of St. Louis, in whichit was made for the profit of the institution, and evidentlywith success ; for in 1764, a widow Roger was in treatywith the hospital to teach her two daughters the fabricationof point dArgentan. They were to be boarded, and givesix years of their time. The fine on non-performance was80 livres. In 1781, the Sieur Gravelle Desvallees made afruitless application to establish a manufacture at Argentan ;nor could even the children of the widow AVyriot obtain arenewal of the privilege granted to their mother.^ Gravellewas ruined by the Revolution, and died in 1830. Arthur Young, in 1788, estimates the annual value ofArgentan point at 500,000 livres.
