It was here that the Rev. Edmund Pillsbury, for years,taught the people on the sabbath, and the children duringthe week, as a pastor. A man he was to all the country dear, And passing rich with twenty pounds a year. Remote from towns he ran his godly race, Nor eer had changed, nor wished to change, his place Unpraetisd he to fawn, or seek for power, By doctrines fashioned to the varying hour; Far other aims his heart had learned to prize, — j\Iore skilled to raise the wietched than to rise. As a teacher, he was mild and patient, ready to unfoldall the stores he had. whether great or small, and many ofthe first generation had reason to remember him with grat-itude.

Buzellcould look down with contempt upon any six-footer, and noman could wield the poker, or lay on the birch, with great-er effect; few the rogues that dared resist, and destructionawaited those that dared. His stern aspect and loweringbrow were enough to carry dismay to the stoutest heart.When other teachers failed and were put out, Buzellwas the coming man, and when he came, culprits wentout. And yet he was one of the noblest of men. For histimes, he knew much, far more than most teachers. Heloved to teach any that loved to learn.
