Clinton. Washington and Clay. His ability generally, particularly onfinance, was recognized by his appointment to the position of chairman of theCommittee on Finance and on other important committees. Although one ofthe youngest members of the House, he became one of its leading members,winning the reputation of being an industrious worker in the committee roomand a strong speaker on the floor. Mr. Williams is a member of the Masonic fraternity and of the Presbyterianchurch.
